Microsoft on 22nd February launched an exclusive “Made for India” app, Skype Lite, to provide seamless experience in messaging, audio and video calling at lower bandwidths.
This new app will be available only for Android devices and specially made for saving data. The app also supports Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu languages.
The app lets user share multimedia files without downloading them to device. “Skype Lite” is an all-in-one app and has functionalities such as integrated calling and SMS, by which the user can make it the default app for these 2 functions.
Microsoft has used Artificial Intelligence (AI) that segregates normal text messages, Skype messages and promotional texts.
This new version is expected to consume less battery and also run smoothly on phones with older versions of android. Microsoft will also integrate Aadhaar to Skype.
This shows that how important market India has become for multinational companies, whereby they are developing products specific to Indian consumer’s choices.
They have kept an eye on the Indian consumer’s mentality of data and power usage, incorporating the same in the new app.
