Honda India looking to develop a Royal Enfield competitor

  • Honda Motor Co. has its eyes set on the middleweight motorcycle segment to develop a motorcycle, which can compete with Royal Enfield& have formed a team of engineers from Japan and Thailand for the same.
  • Mahindra’s Mojo Bajaj’s recent Dominar triedto dethrone Royal Enfield’s status in the 300-500cc segment, but haven’t been very successful. 
  • Honda’s decision to develop a new global product from scratch, in the 300-500cc power cruiser segment which already has the Rebel 300 and Rebel 500, shows how determined they are to compete with Royal Enfield.
  • With 13,819 Royal Enfield motorcycles sold internationally and 5.92 lakh units sold in India in 2016-17, it seems that their cult following is only increasing.
  • Royal Enfield’s latest offering, the Himalayan, has been doing great both here and in the global markets.
