Amazon looks to ‘flip the kart’ with service-loaded smartphones

  • Amazon India to bundle exclusive device launches with its own services including Prime Video, Kindle and Amazon Pay.
  • The move comes after Amazon India’s shares fell in the smartphone category in the first quarter of 2017, where Flipkart emerged as a winner.
  • Besides calls, shopping, watching videos & reading are the three most heavily features used in a smartphone, and all of these were right there on top for Moto G5 with Prime Video, Kindle and Amazon Pay, which was recently launched on its platform.
  • The company is working closely with specifications, customer behaviour, online brand value & pricing, for its exclusive brand tie-ups with OnePlus & Coolpad, which will have pre installed Amazon services.
  • Exclusive tie-ups are crucial for marketplaces as they make additional revenue through promotion, marketing & distribution of brands which do not have a strong physical presence in India.
