Food delivery space to get hotter with UberEATS set to enter India

  • Uber is set to launch its on-demand food delivery app UberEATS in India.
  • UberEATS started as a pilot in Los Angeles in 2014 & is currently live across 62 cities globally.
  • Uber is currently in the process of setting up a team dedicated to the UberEATS business in India.
  • The launch comes at a time when major on-demand food aggregators delivery companies like Swiggy Zomato are looking to strengthen their businesses with additional capital
  • Uber will charge between 25 to 30% commission for each delivery, which is higher than its competitor Swigggy which charges its restaurant partner at 15-20% of the order value, apart from the delivery charges billed to the customer.
  • Google has also recently launched its hyperlocal services & food delivery app Areo.
  • Ola had also launched its food delivery service Ola Café in April 2015 which was rolled back by the company in less than a year after facing tough competition from standalone food delivery apps
