M&M is studying the possibility of developing an electric sports car like Tesla, with the Indian buyer in mind.
If the sports car idea passes the feasibility test, then Mahindra will aim to sell it upwards of Rs 25 lakh.
Mahindra Electric has also been trying to project its image as an electric vehicle maker.
Building a high performance sports car with a long driving range can have a rub-off effect on not just Mahindra Electric’s portfolio, but the entire electric car segment.
M&M’s focus will now be on reducing the cost and having a longer driving range to make its product viable for the prospective buyer.
The company which is already at an advanced stage of developing an electric SUV, is expected to hit the market after 2018-2019.
