The fact that television plays an important role in the field of entertainment is known to all. Talking about television, the providers that come to mind are Sony and Tata Sky. They have been there in the industry for many successful years now.
There has been constant chatters about how millions of Tata Sky users miss out on several shows and sporting action.
The Direct-To-Home (DTH) operator still has to restore most of the Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) channels that they had removed from its platform on the 1 st of October.
SPN had more than doubled their Financial Demand. This led to the dispute that we all are witnessing now. SPN asked for Rs. 1700 cr for a tenure of 3 years that they previously served for, at a price of Rs. 800 cr.
Tata Sky not accepting this amount led to Sony take down their channels. The DTH operator has restored 10 SPN channels, out of a total of 32, under the Reference Interconnect Offer (RIO) Agreement.
This feud created a chaos on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), a committee, made sure that Tata-Sky and Sony Network, sad down and drew a proper conclusion as a solution to their problem.
Tata-Sky Senior Counsel, Kapil Sibal informed TDSAT, that the offer
given by Sony is way too high when SPN has lost the IPL Rights.
